AUCTION REVIEW
CCA, PRACTICAL CLASSICS CLASSIC CAR AND RESTORATION SHOW, NEC. 25-26 MARCH
CCA’s NEC sale was nicely themed and a show-within-a-show, with some great results for vendors
1968 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller SOLD £6187
1995 Jaguar XJ6 Sport
SOLD £787 2002 Jaguar XK8 SOLD £1350
Classic Car Auctions’ Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show sale was a first-class confection of eras, marques and conditions.
There were several models from the 1920s with the oldest car, a 1925 Jowett Short Two tourer, kicking its £5-8k estimate well into the long grass as it was off for £14,062 and a delightfully-refurbished 1925 Morris Cowley, estimated at £10-14k, made £12,600.
More traditional offerings included a good selection of Jaguar XJ-S/XJS models backed up by some firs-tgeneration XK8s and a pair of E-types, one a Series 3 2+2 project. A 1991 XJS Le Mans V12 Coupé (one owner, 2804 miles from new) made £30,600 while the E-type 2+2 project realised £20,812.
An older-restoration MGC GT was a wise buy at £16,312 and a 1974 Triumph Stag (past restoration, recent re-commissioning) sold for £9k. A garage-find 1970 Austin Mini Clubman 1275GT with fewer than 12,000 miles on the clock and in need of work, meanwhile, may have been estimated at £10-12k but chalked up £38,250 when the gavel fell.
Alongside the to-be-expected performance Escorts and an early XR2 were a Consul MkI (£3600), a 1961 Zephyr (£5175) and a 1963 Consul Capri (£23,625).
An intriguing selection of project cars included a pair of Jensen C-V8s and an Austin 1800 (offered at no-reserve) while a 1969 Porsche 911S (a B-series, built for just one year) was also a no-reserve offering but fetched £38,250 at the finish.
CCA is now consigning classics for its next sale, which takes place on 17 June at the Warwickshire Event Centre.
