WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

The engine runs well once it gets up to temperature and the transmission moves smoothly between the gears though first gear can be a bit crunchy to find if the clutch – which has quite a high biting point – isn’t fully depressed. It can feel a bit reluctant before it’s warmed through, but has more than enough get up and go once the choke is no longer needed. The large steering wheel disguises the lack of power assistance very well and it places the car where you tell it to without quibble. The ride is pliant and quiet and the brakes work well.

BODYWORK CHECK

The two-tone green paintwork accentuates the P4’s curves beautifully. Up close, the paint is in good condition for the most part with only minor cracking on some edges. The back doors don’t quite sit flush but panel gaps appear otherwise fine. Some seals are looking a little old but our rainy test drive revealed no leaks and the wipers are in good working order. External chrome is all present if a little pitted in places but the front bumper would benefit from some attention to prevent further rust forming.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The inside is swathed in green leather in keeping with the green paintwork. This wasn’t the car’s original colour so it looks a little streaky in places but it’s been colour matched to the outside quite well. The dashboard has been well maintained for the most part with only minor wood discolouration on the passenger side. There’s some flaky paint on the dial surrounds but all read clearly and work as intended, including the clock.
