WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

Starting is quick and easy, with hot and cold oil pressure reading normal. 115bhp isn’t a lot to play with by today’s standards but enough to give sparkling and enjoyable performance from the lively twin-cam V4 engine in something as and lightweight as this. The twin Solex carburettors were specialist-tuned last year so the Lancia is completely on-song when warm, even if its idle can be a little lumpy when cold. The five-speed dog-leg gearbox is slick through its ratios and the all-disc brakes work well.

BODYWORK CHECK

Lancias don’t always have the best reputation for longevity but this one’s doing very well indeed. Some of that might be down to it being Ziebarted from new (according to the history folder) but some restoration work has obviously taken place, although it’s unclear when that was. The Bronzo Longchamps paint is in very good order with a consistent finish. There’s a small touch-up patch under the driver’s door but little else of note – certainly no rust. The brightwork is all good, albeit with minor pitting to Mazak items like the door handles. The Cromodora wheels look to have been refurbished recently and are clad in Michelin Energy tyres, albeit with 2004 date stamps.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

With this being a Lusso – aspec usually reserved for export – there’s a bit more luxury inside than in some HF Coupés. So while the seats are ‘just’ black vinyl (and largely free from any real wear) the dashboard is wood and there’s a radio on the passenger side, in this case a Radiomobile, though it doesn’t appear to work.
