AUCTION REPORT ANGLIA CAR AUCTIONS, KING’S LYNN, NORFOLK. 1-2 APRIL

Mille Miglia Lancia smashes its estimate but homegrown classics do well, too

Anglia Car Auctions’ spring sale might have been held on 1 April (and the following day) but there was no fooling around when it came to buying and selling at King’s Lynn.

The generously-proportioned two-day auction lined up the modern, the old, the fine and the project, with a few useful classic wildcards keeping the interest high.

In the modern classics camp there was much to choose from: a 2005 BMW M5 (four previous owners, ‘M5’ registration number included and 17 stamps in the book) offered blistering more-door performance for £14,688 while a 2000 Ford Mondeo ST200 offered a good left-field take on the fast Ford phenomenon, going to a new owner at £6480.

Mercedes-Benz also got a modern classic bruiser look-in with a 2004 CL65 bought for £18,576 and a 2007 CLS 63 for £11,988.

The regular classic offering was a good one, with Jaguars, MGs and Triumphs all getting a look-in. A restored 1977 MGB GT with chrome bumper conversion and a colour change made £15,768 against a £12-15k estimate and a tidy enough no-reserve 1970 GT was well snapped-up for just £3564.

A 1982 Jaguar XJ-S resto project (unsurprisingly at no-reserve) cost its new owner £1110 and a 1988 XJ-S V12 convertible was £15,660 against an £18,000-22,000 estimate. A 1968 S-type project where much of the work had already been done, meanwhile, was £10,260.

The oldest Triumph offered was a 1955 TR2, which was a touch behind its 18 grand lower estimate at £17,280, while at the other end of the TR timeline a 1982 TR7 convertible sold for £4860, a smidgen behind its £5000 upper estimate.

Almost all Land Rovers were away, the oldest a 1955 86” for £10,908, the most recent a 2015 Defender 110 County TD for £36,720.

1997 SUBARU IMPREZA TURBO

There was nothing remotely chavvy or aftermarket about this warranted 13,760-miles-from-new one-owner Impreza Turbo.

There was enough paperwork to add appeal while £1300 had been spent on a service and cambelt last year.

It was always likely to do well, but going this far above its 18k upper estimate was certainly very telling.

1969 ROVER 3500

Few early 3500s come to auction so this 1969 model was in with a good chance of finding a new owner.

The vendor had owned it since 2010, with five keepers from new. MoT-tested until next Febru
