With the Panda’s MoT looming, Richard finally gets around to sorting out one of the issues that it would clearly have failed on

My Panda has had a tiny crack at the base of its windscreen for the last couple of years. It wasn’t enough to fail the MoT because it didn’t intrude into the swept area but anybody who has had very minor damage to their front screen will know that it’s only ever a matter of time before a small fracture becomes a much larger and more obtrusive one.
And so it was that the break began its inevitable advance upwards through the glass during last summer’s extreme heat. The very cold temperatures during winter only hastened its spread and, as entertaining as it was to come out on a frosty morning and see in which direction the crack had decided to go overnight, this year’s MoT test was approaching so it was time to get it sorted once and for all.
Fortunately, my insurer, Peter James, offers windscreen cover and glass is still available for Pandas, despite it being almost 30 years since the firs-tgeneration models disappeared from the British market. It probably helps that Panda windscreens are compact and completely flat.
