WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

This car shows just how good an MGB can be. The engine fires up instantly and runs enthusiastically, with good 55-65psi oil pressure, plus a sporty exhaust rasp that sounds delightful. The car accelerates as it should through all four gears and slots smoothly into and out of overdrive. The steering isn’t light but responsive enough, with crisp handling that almost makes you wonder whether there are some undocumented modifications. It also rides better than you might expect, and brakes in a straight line. The clutch is free from judder.

BODYWORK CHECK

This car has obviously been cosseted. We’re told the paintwork is original and it’s survived in excellent order, with no significant scratches. Underneath, we found no obvious rust. The panel gaps were definitely achieved on a good day. The doors don’t sag and the tailgate opens and closes nicely. The rubber bumpers are smart, the chrome along the side of the car is dent free, and the windows are mint. (Where has this thing been?) Even the wheels are in A1 condition, as are the Dunlop Elite tyres. The only blemish we found was worn paint around the driver’s door hinges.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

You’ve got to love that stripey seat material. It has survived in super condition, but inevitably it’s stretched a bit, particularly on the passenger seat – not too noticeable and probably repairable.
