Subtitled A Life in Cars, this self-published book chronicles the vehicle ownership of enthusiast Geoff Dendle over 50 years. Written as a nostalgia project during the lockdown days, the result is an entertaining and readable effort that will strike a chord with many. There are the model cars of boyhood that cemented a love of motoring, through to the Minis, Imps and A35s of a young driver with a fresh licence, and on to more mature Volvos, Saabs and Mercedes-Benzes. But Geoff has also delighted in more offbeat machines, including the Gallic madness that was the Renault Avantime. The motoring trials, tribulations and triumphs (yes, he’s had some of those too) are of the type that a lot of us will have experienced and are told with wit and charm. The book is both good value – £8.50 for 231 pages or just a fiver for the Kindle edition – and good fun. Richard Gunn
