Forgotten haul of classic cars and spare parts to go under the hammer

A 50-strong stash of unrestored British classics is being auctioned in Devon later this month.

Ottervale Auctions said that it was selling the haul of project cars amassed by a collector over two decades, all of which are no-reserve.

The collection was originally built up by Ivor Smith, a former council worker who had plans to set up a business that dismantled classics in order to sell the parts to enthusiasts.

He bought the cars in the late Nineties and early Noughties – when classic values were considerably lower than they are currently – and kept them at a farm in the Teign Valley, but never got around to dismantling them.

He’s now selling the collection due to ill health. The stash is heavily focused on classic Triumph and Land Rover models, but also includes a Jaguar XJ6 Series I, Reliant Scimitar GTEs, a Bond Equipe and several kit cars.

All of the vehicles are described as non-runners which are being sold strictly as spares or repair, but some of the vehicles are complete and are being sold with their documentation.

The sale also includes spares for the vehicles, including engines, gearboxes, panels, bumpers, seats, wheels, and windscreens, as well as tools, equipment and books and brochures related to the cars.

Ottervale Auctions said that it will be holding viewings of the cars the day before the 21 May sale, and encouraged any potential bidders to get in touch ahead of the sale

Auction proprietor, David Williams, said: ‘All of them were originally driven to this site so they were complete
