WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

The X308 moved from a choice of straight-six and V12 power to a V8 – in the Sport model a free revving 3.2 litre. This one’s AJ-V8 engine is as creamy and powerful as you would hope, starting easily and revving smoothly. It pulls strongly through the rev range while remaining refined and the automatic gearbox slides through the gears cleanly, with prompt kickdowns as required. The brakes are powerful and pull the car up to a halt quickly and in a straight time. The car rides very smoothly, gliding over bad surfaces and is controlled around curves. The steering is tight and precise, too.

BODYWORK CHECK

Looking around the bodywork, the panels are very good, straight with decent panel gaps while the silver paint has a deep gloss and very few marks. Even the prominent bumper corners are free of scrapes, although there is a small area of lacquer peel on the rear wing. The alloy wheels are in great condition and the tyres have deep tread. There is minimal brightwork but what there is looks great, and it has had a Leaper added to the bonnet by a previous owner. It has a power radio antenna on the rear wing that rolls up and down correctly, and there is also a now retro mobile phone aerial on the rear window, for a car phone kit in the arm rest. The lamp lenses are bright and clear and the twin exhaust tips look great.
