UPCOMING AUCTION SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS, SYWELL AERODROME. 20 MAY

Silverstone’s Sywell sale promises to be one to watch with a strong performance and luxury theme

Promising variety and targeting ‘real’ enthusiasts, this sale includes a selection of Ferraris in conjunction with the Ferrari Owners’ Club, plus a fully restored 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriole (estimate: £280-340k).

A 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II re-bodied as a drophead in the late 1930s comes with ample history and a re-built engine. It’s estimated at £150-200k.

A brace of Bentley R-type Continentals includes a 1954 example (est: £600-700k) and one from 1955 (est: £450-500k). There’s also a 1954 (one of 14) Abbott-bodied 1954 R-types with an estimate of £80-100k.

A late (1980) Maserati Merak SS (£40- 45k) and a restored UK-market 1974 BMW 3.0 CSi is estimated at £50-60k. The same estimate applies to a 1969 Fiat Dino Coupé, which Silverstone says is ‘undoubtedly one of the best we have ever seen.’

A ‘painstakingly restored’ 1964 Lotus Elan has a £40-50k estimate, Cosworth co-founder Keith Duckworth’s 1968 S4 Coupé is up for £35-40k and an Eagle Engineering-upgraded 1970 Jaguar E-type roadster weighs in at a strong £240-280k.

There’s also a 1988 Porsche 944 2.5 Lux that’s covered 5130 miles from new, a selection of fast Fords including two 1987 Sierra RS500s and a ‘regular’ RS Cosworth. A 1986 RS200 adds some little-seen blue oval performance and there’s also a set of body panels offered as a separate lot.

A 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Volante (Vantage specification) carries a £600-700k estimate: a pre-production, 642km 2001 V12 Vanquish (est: £100- 115k) and a 522km 2007 Vanquish S 2+2, estimated at £150-170k.
