Superbears: The Story of Hesketh Racing £89.00

You can imagine the initial conversation in 1972 between Alexander, Lord Hesketh and friend Antony 'Bubbles' Horsley about launching their own racing team. The establishment laughed, but not for long. Having thrown itself into Formula 3 and 2 racing, Hesketh took the big step into F1 in 1973, initially using a rented March. With a talented team comprising designer Harvey Postlethwaite, engineer Nigel Stroud and chief mechanic Dave 'Beaky' Sims, Hesketh began constructing its own car in the former stable block on the family estate at Easton Neston, Northamptonshire. The Cosworth-engined Hesketh 308/1 won the 1974 International Trophy at Silverstone and the 308/2 in re-built B spec took the Dutch Grand Prix in 1975, with superstar driver James Hunt keeping Niki Lauda's Ferrari in second place. Both the funding and luck ran out in 1978, but Hesketh had a great run. This fascinating and in-depth book tells the story especially well.
