WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

This Cavalier starts on the button, runs supremely smoothly with no knocks or bangs and performs well when called upon. It does not overheat and there is no evidence of any burning of oil or coolant. It doesn't feel tired or thrashed and drives exceptionally well. Power delivery is excellent and the engine feels lithe and eager with no rattles from under the bonnet. The brakes are sharp and the car stops on a penny. The gearbox feels great and changes are fluid and positive. The clutch is strong and has a decent biting point, too. The car corners confidently without excessive body roll or understeer and it feels like a much younger car than it is.

BODYWORK CHECK

There are a few bumper scuffs and some paint blemishes and the whole car could use a polish but there's no real rust to speak of aside from some slight surface bubbling on the inside edge of both rear wheel arches. The sills are all good as is the underside of the car, with the chassis and floorpans appearing very solid. All of the glass is in good condition, including the sunroof, but there is a rather substantial chip to the offside headlight. The factory alloy wheels are all in great shape and the tyres – amix of Dunlop SPs and Semperit Speed Comforts – are matched pairs and have plenty of life left in them.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The cabin is in fantastic original condition overall, down to the factory-fitted stereo and the only issues are a slightly sagging headlining towards the rear, a non-functioning fuel gauge and electric door mirror controller and broken parcel shelf attachments. Everything else works as intende
