UPCOMING AUCTION HISTORICS, MERCEDES-BENZ WORLD. 25 NOVEMBER

Historics’ Mercedes-Benz World sale has plenty of tempting Teutonic metal – but it’s homegrown buys that look set to dominate the offered lots

Historics’ final sale of 2023 sees plenty of regular classics line up alongside modern classic and pre-war motors to bring some festive delight to those looking to treat themselves.

The typicallty strong Mercedes-Benz selection includes a brace of short-wheelbase G-Wagens, one of them being a rarely-seen convertible. There are a highly original, superb order 1985 230E and two 190SLs, too, one dating from 1955, the other a more recent model from 1962.

Jaguar E-types includes a 1961, flat floor/external bonnet lock roadster and a 1967 2+2, both fully restored. There’s also a pair of fixed-heads – one 1964, the other 1970 – and a 1973 roadster. A 1967 240 saloon with only four owners from new could be just the thing, too, as might a 1957 Mk VIII. If the 240 appeals, so might a 1966 Daimler V8 250 that’s said to be in fantastic original condition.

The market has seen a growing interest in Vauxhalls, driven in part by later performance models, but from an earlier time Historics has two saloons, both of which have been restored extensively – a ‘three back window’ 1959 PA Cresta and a splendid 1949 Wyvern.

Triumphs include a 1980 TR7 convertible that shows just over 14,000 miles (and underwent mechanical recommissioning costing £7000 in 2019) while a 1976 Stag in just-right Java Green has just had its engine re-built.

Following in the wheel tracks of CCW’s restomods story, Historics turns up the wick on this increasingly popular market segment with two 911s offered alongside original models. Porsche restomods are especially popular and have, to a great extent, driven the scene, meaning that the 1976 and 1977 models offered should pique plenty of interest.

In the Ferrari camp there’s a well-historied 1986 328GTS and a 2012 FF, which also has a reassuringly ample file of supporting paperwork.
