AUCTION REVIEW

HAMPSON AUCTIONS, BOLESWORTH CASTLE. 12 NOVEMBER

Pint-sized Japanese roadster doubles UK price record – and there are other healthy deals, too

It might have been Hampson’s last sale of the year but the first lot – A Nissan Figaro – wowed punters as it cruised on to a phenomenal £28,125, a sum that way out-paced the £5625 paid for the second lot, a well-maintained 1994 Bentley Brooklands.

The final 2023 Hampson outing saw three MGBs away, with 1971 and 1979 ‘B GTs at £3656 and £1969 and a 1972 Roadster for £5850, a tad behind its £6-8k estimate. The early-consigned 1966 Ford Cortina GT convertible, offered at no-reserve, made £12,825 an d a1957 Austin A35 two-door, again no-reserve, made £7031.

Yet another no-reservist – a 1962 Daimler SP250 – sold for a healthy £32,625 and showed that this one-time opinion polariser continues to maintain its popularity.

Among later performance cars a no-reserve 1995 Lotus Elan Turbo was a tidy buy at £5625 while a 2003 Maserati 4200 Spyder estimated at £8-10k went to a new home at £6750. The more left-field 1996 Mazda RX7 Efini, estimated at £18- 22k was away for a straight 18 grand.

Hampson is now consigning for its first auction of 2024, which is currently scheduled to take place on 17 March. ❚ 01606 828124 hampsonauctions.com

1973 TRIUMPH GT6

This one-owner GT6 from a deceased estate sale showed 68,494 miles and was said to be in good order throughout. The body and paint looked great and panel fit was very good, too. All was extremely good inside and the period Lucas radio (complete with FM tuning) added to the appeal. A top-flight offering and it’s blindingly obvious that Hampson punters thought the same because it easily surpassed its £12-14k pre-sale estimate.
