This year has played host to an incredible array of events celebrating all manner of cars and milestone anniversaries. But which were our favourite ten? Well, in no particular order…
Allegro @ 50
The Allegro may have been much maligned by many but it’s hard to deny its impact and importance. Small wonder that a fantastic party was held in its honour at the British Motor Museum when it hit its 50th anniversary this year.
Allegro Club International pulled off a brilliant event with 80 cars in attendance. All types were here, including series ones, twos and threes, estates and Vanden Plas models, Equipes, Crayford convertibles and even a customised pick-up. With an autojumble, quiz and road rally encapsulated the wonderful community that classics conjure up.
From the dedicated people in the clubs who put on these rallies, to the places that host and those that turn up and support, if you want an event that combines the wonder of the classic car, look no further than one of the humblest of the breed.
Le Mans Classic
Le Mans. The Twenty-Four-Hour Race. You think of Le Mans and countless cars spring to mind, from the early days of the Bentley boys to Jaguar D-types, Ferraris and their domination and then battle against Ford and Porsche’s success through the 1970s. It’s a race steeped in history – 100 years of it, in fact. So, when the Le Mans Classic rolled around this year, celebrating that history, we sent CCW’s resident Francophiles, Jesse Billington and James Sadlier to report.
