Well-historied XK120 stars at H&H’s final outing of the year – but a restored Riley, a pair of Singers and various MGs all perform strongly, too

H & H’s final outing of 2023 provided plenty of punters to give their plastic a pre-Christmas work-out.The star lot was the 1954 Jaguar XK120 fhc that had been sold new to racing driver Patsy Burt. The connection with Britain’s most successful lady racing driver helped its cause, but in later ownership it had been restored and modified to make it more usable. Interest was enough to propel it on to £111,375.

From the same decade came something of a British saloon rarity – a Riley 2.6. The nicely restored Rover P4 alternative and was bought for £15,750. It was suggested that there are just a dozen 2.6s still on the road so the chance of another coming to auction soon isn’t likely. The Riley was joined by a 1950 MG YA, which, while estimated at £12-14k was bought for £10,688.

Two Austin-Healey 100s went off to new homes, with a 1954 100/4 bought for £28,125 against a £33-37k estimate and a 1955 100/6 (£40-50k) slipped into the estimate frame at £40,500.

Staying on the two-by-two theme the sale was unusual for offering a pair of post-war Singer Roadsters, both at no reserve. A 1949 4A was away for £6075 and a 1952 4AB some way ahead at £7650. There were two 1971 Lotus Elan Sprints – aFHC (£25-30k) was away for £24,750 and aDHC (no reserve) was a tad behind at £23,625.
