The 30th LeJog rally was one of the toughest yet. Some 17 crews fell short of the finishing line so those who made it had plenty to celebrate

This year's LeJog rally marked 30 years since the first-ever running of the reliability trial in 1993. Adverse weather conditions decimated half of the field of classic entrants and LeJog will take a break next year before returning in 2025, as reported in last week’s issue (27 December).

Event organiser HERO-ERA said that the 2023 Land’s End to John o’Groats Reliability Trial was the toughest for seven years, with 44 crews starting but only 27 crossing the finish line.

Snow and black ice greeted the classics that crossed three countries on this year’s route, with a Volkswagen Beetle losing a wheel and a Porsche 924 coming off the road among the incidents on this year’s stages.

Clerk of the Course Guy Woodcock said:, ‘It’s 30 years since the first one and this is the toughest that I’ve experienced in 15 years of doing these. We had bad weather throughout the trip and anybody who has made it has done extremely well. Those who have finished with a medal really deserve it, it will be the toughest medal they will ever win.’
