International expert stresses the important role that clubs play in helping the classic scene to thrive

The Jowett Car Club’s achievements were recognised when it was named Club of the Year at 2023’s National Car Club Awards.

An organisation that represents global classic owners has praised car clubs for playing a vital role in keeping classics on the road.

In a new year’s message to members of The Fédération International des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), FIVA president, Tiddo Bresters, stressed the importance of clubs in ensuring the survival of the classic car scene. ourselves – what were the highs and what were the lows?

Expressed in altitude, that question is easy for me to answer: the highlight was the climb, with our 50-year-old VW Beetle, of the Grossglockner pass in Austria – its highest point being the Edelweißspitze, at 2571m.

‘That was part of a tour that I organised to Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria for the Netherlands historic VW Club, of which I have been a member for 45 years.

‘For me, the clubs are and remain the foundation of our historic vehicle movement. Which is why it does so much good to be on the road with people from different backgrounds, but with the same passion.
