No Bromley Pageant this year following London mayor’s ULEZ expansion

THE COVER STORY

Organisers have called off a major classic car show in the south east following London Mayor, Sadiq Khan’s decision to expand the capital’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) still further.

The team behind the Bromley Pageant, which has been running for more than 40 years and brings more than 3000 classics to the area’s Norman Park, said that it is cancelling this year’s event following the zone’s expansion, which would force more modern classics to pay the emissions charge in order to take part.

Event organiser A-ME Event Management said in a statement: ‘Following the introduction of the ULEZ across Greater London we have taken considerable time to evaluate all options for the future of the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, including whether it would be viable to still hold the Pageant at Norman Park, Bromley.

‘We appreciate the support that we have received from car owners, clubs, trade and visitors over the time we have had the honour of looking after the Pageant and we are as disappointed as you that it will not take place this year. We do look forward to what the future will hold for this wonderful event and hope to bring you further details later in the year.’

And last year’s Classics on The Green – which attracts 2000 classics, to Croxley Green in Hertfordshire – was called off for similar reasons. The London to Brighton Classic Car Run’s start point was also re-located from Greenwich Park to Brooklands Museum in Surrey in order to avoid ULEZ charges.

All-Party Parliamentary Historic Vehicles Group chair, Sir Greg Knight MP told Classic Car Weekly: ‘The cancellation of the 2024 Bromley Pageant is a big loss to the classic car community and yet another knock-on consequence of the unwanted and unnecessary ULEZ expansion. Sadly we could well see other similar events being cancelled or moved outside of the wider London area as a
