RETRO RACING AND RALLYING IN ONE PLACE

Plus, there’s the chance to go rallying with HERO-ERA’s Classic Tour and training academy. Iconic Auctioneers is on hand with a catalogue that’s bursting at the seams with collectable cars and rare racers. So if you’re just looking to stroll the filled halls, buy a new project, bag some parts of an existing one or watch as some classic rally cars slither about on the special stage, there’s no end of things to enjoy at this year’s event.

BATTLE OF THE AGES

The Pomeroy Trophy is the VSCC’s wildest event. Cars of all ages, from modern to the dawn of motoring, will tackle a series of driving tests at Silverstone as well as a 40-minute track session with a target distance for each car. Couple that with some of the more unusual trials that the Pom throws up, like stowing a brace of suitcases, and it’s an all-encompassing test that seeks to find the ultimate grand touring machine – entrants even receive bonus points if they drove their car to the event! The origins of this event can be traced back to 1949 with the first iteration taking place in 1952, it’s a slice of history and an odd one at that because the results aren’t often what you’d expect. Entry is free, but given February’s changeable weather conditions, we’d strongly recommend packing a brolly and a coat – vintage racing waits for no man and no rain.

YOUTUBE STARS CELEBRATE CLASSICS

A new entry onto this year’s classic car calendar and it’s already lining up to be a busy one with more and more display cars announced by the day. Described as celebrating cars that are ‘clapped out to concours’ Steph Hoy, Ian and Carly Seabrook and Matt Richardson– the people behind; I Drive a Classic, HubNut and Furious Driving respectively – are bringing your cars together for a day on display. Display tickets are £11 and with hordes of cars already registered, early guesses are that this will be a sell-out event. There’s a prize giving, too, though not just for the shiniest and most pristine examples, of course.
