WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

The car quickly gets underway from cold with a touch of choke and shows 60psi of oil pressure under load, dropping to around 40psi at idle after a run. Being a petrol injection with overdrive on second, third and fourth gears, this TR5 has enough performance to satisfy most keen drivers and pick-up from the six-cylinder engine is impressive. The gearbox is pleasantly tactile and recently fitted Koni dampers have resulted in brilliant handling and a feeling of being properly planted when cornering. Steering is accurate and the brakes feel pin-sharp. The only issue we found was a slightly compromised driving position thanks to the large aftermarket steering wheel – especially for taller drivers.

BODYWORK CHECK

This car looks beautiful in its dark blue paint with matching mohair hood, which fits perfectly and tightly. There are no swirl marks, scratches or stone chips to speak of, the chassis and floors seem to be in great shape and there's no evidence of any botched previous repairs. The entire underside of the car is still resplendent with a good coating of black stone-chip paint. All of the chrome looks great, as do the wire wheels, aside from a few small patches of discolouration here and there. The Avon Radial Steel tyres are showing an even wear pattern with plenty of rubber left.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The cabin seems to be in fine fettle throughout. The seats show no sign of any significant wear or sagging, the carpets are clean and dry (indicating no wtare ingress issues with the roof or door seals) and the dashboar
