WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

This particular Supra may not be turbocharged but it still provides more than enough flexible performance. Oil pressure sits just below 40psi but the temperature gauge seems reluctant to nudge off the cold mark even though the engine warms up and the heater works well enough. With less than 45K under its timing belt (replaced fewer than 5000 miles ago) it’s small wonder that it feels fighting fit. The transmission is typically Toyota slick and silent and the handling benefits from recently fitted replacement Nexen tyres. All in all, this Supra makes a great and more sophisticated alternative to, say, a Capri 2.8i.

BODYWORK CHECK

A70 Supras always looked the part and this one doesn’t let the side down. We could find no sign of accident damage to the panels and the pop-up headlights work cleanly. There are signs of superficial nicks and past touch-ups to the bumper edges but there’s no evidence of any rust repairs. It’s also pleasingly standard, right down to the original alloy wheels, which are similarly undamaged, although would benefit from professional refurbishment.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The predominately grey cabin still looks almost as good as the day the car left the showroom with no tears or blemishes apparent. The seats haven’t sagged and the carpets have been protected with tailored Toyota mats. The controls work with typical Toyota smoothness and the vendor has found new electric window switches because they’re prone to failure.
