DRIVE-IT DAY CRASH BOX & CLASSIC CAR CLUB, DAWLISH, 24 APRIL

Having been rained-off last year, conditions couldn’t have been better for the Crash Box & Classic Car Club’s Drive-It Day return to The Lawns in the heart of Dawlish in Devon.

The event at the picturesque setting kicked off at 10am and was already filling up nicely when I arrived at a quarter past and a steady trickle of cars rolled in and out throughout the day, which kept it feeling fresh until chucking-out time at 4pm.

The location couldn’t have been more perfect, with ample parking and surrounded by a plethora of shops, cafes, pubs, an amusement arcade and the sea, so there was something to entertain and somewhere to feed the entire family.

There was a fantastic variety of cars in attendance, too, from race-spec, JAP-engined Morgan Three Wheelers to modern-day Mustangs and everything in between. Organiser, Michael Fenner, who has decided to step down from his duties after 15 years, said: ‘It was certainly a bit of a rush at the start but then it quietened down and filled up nicely. I was counting the cars in as they arrived and we’ve had more than 200 today, so it’s certainly been a successful turnout and the club is very happy with how everything’s gone.’

The Lawns, down by Dawlish seafront provided a fantastic venue for Drive It Day, and many locals came to appreciate the cars on display.

A diverse selection of classics were on show, with something to tickle the taste buds of every car lover.
