Big event turnouts help your cars to raise thousands of pounds for charity in a national celebration of classics

Bicester Heritage's event was one of the UK's biggest Drive-It Day meets.

With the dust still settling on Sunday’s annual Drive-It Day, organisers have confirmed that this year’s running was the success they were hoping for.

Early reports suggest that the weather was good in many parts of the country, which always helps, and the huge display of vehicles of all types on the roads was an excellent start to the season. Wythall Transport Museum and Wigton Motor Club said that their gatherings were their best-attended yet, while more than 8500 people headed to an event held at Bicester Heritage. Numerous club runs, coffee meets and individual classic outings took place across the country, too – and we’ve received shots of your cars from as far afield as Cornwall and the Orkney Isles. The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs said that sales of Drive-It Day rally plaques had aleady helped to raise thousands for ChildLine.

Chairman, David Whale, told Classic Car Weekly: ‘We are absolutely delighted with the tremendous response this year and thank everyone for their generosity, which means so much and will make a real difference to hundreds of young people that Childline assists each and every day.

‘We raised £51,000 for Childline last year and it looks like we will be close to a similar figure for this year. It is a remarkable demonstration of what the whole movement can achieve when it comes together for a common cause’.

Preparations are now underway for the 20th anniversary of Drive-It Day next year, scheduled to take place on Sunday, 27 April 2025. ❚ driveitday.co.uk
