George Tickner

Journey guitarist Neal Schon has announced the death of George Tickner, a co-founder of the band and their first rhythm guitarist, who played on the first three Journey albums. “Thank you for your incomparable contributions to Journey’s early years,” Schon wrote on social media. “Fly free above the stars, sir…” Tickner was 76 years old.

Jane Birkin

December 14, 1946 – July 16, 2023

Marianne Faithful led the tributes to actress and singer Jane Birkin who has died at the age of 76. She was best known for her 1969 single Je T’Aime... Moi Non Plus, recorded with partner Serge Gainsbourg, which was banned in a number of countries due to indecent content. “I’m very glad that we got to work together,” Faithful commented on Instagram. “I hope people remember that Jane made some of her best albums in recent years.”

Paul Burton

Died July 12, 2023

Paul Burton, the former bassist with the English psychedelic band Help Yourself, has died of unreported cause. Burton joined Help Yourself during the recording of their second album, 1972’s Strange Affair. He later joined Deke Leonard’s Iceberg, and worked for ELP’s label Manticore. “Paul was a truly wonderful person,” says Help Yourself drummer Dave Charles. “I have so many wonderful memories of those days.”

Rick Froberg

January 19, 1968 – June 30, 2023

Also known as Rick Farr and Rick Fork, California-born Rick Froberg was a singer and guitarist with the groups Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes. He also worked as an artist, designing artwork and merchandise for bands including Rocket From The Crypt. He was 55 years old. Cause of death is yet to be reported.
