Exhibition of photographs curated by Courtney Love highlights the role of women in music.

Hole leader Courtney Love has launched a new exhibition that brings together the work of 46 renowned female music photographers. From Her To Eternity: The Women Who Photograph Music is on show at the Wabash Arts Corridor, a spectacular outdoor gallery in Chicago, and runs until September 18. Love created and curated the collection along with Julie Panebianco, Creative Director of the Archive Of Contemporary Music, in order to highlight the important role of women in the music industry, both in front of and behind the camera.

The exhibition includes iconic images of musicians from many different genres, including Jane’s Addiction, Kurt Cobain, Kiss, Ringo Starr, U2, Buddy Guy, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Robert Smith, Flea, Pussy Riot, Lenny Kravitz, Björk and Aretha Franklin, from album covers to live photos and also candid shots. They were captured by a list of photographers that includes Linda McCartney, Laura Levine, Ellen von Unwerth, Sheila Rock, former Hole member Melissa Auf der Maur, Katarina Benzova, Christy Bush, Kate Simon, Pamela Springsteen, The Tyler Twins (Katherine and Mariel), Christina Birrer, Patricia O’Driscoll and Dana Distortion. One of its most imaginative and slightly surreal selections is a vintage photo of Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood strolling along a beach in Malibu carrying huge red balloons, photographed by Carinthia West.
