Which shells will you be stocking up on for our return to shooting? Eley Hawk offer some suggestions

Now we mustn’t count our chickens before they’re hatched, but as this issue goes to press it’s looking likely that shooting grounds will be allowed to reopen before too long.

When the government decides it’s safe to relax the lockdown restrictions, shooting is expected to be one of the first activities to be allowed again – after all, we shoot outside in the open air, and we have already proved that we can do so while following all the regulations on social distancing, hand sanitising and so on.

And if we’re going shooting, we’ll be needing cartridges! When that happens, iconic British cartridge manufacturer Eley Hawk anticipates high demand. The company’s managing director, Rodrigo Crespo, says “We know that once we are able to return to shooting there is going to be a surge in the amount of people attending clay shoots, and that will likely mean a couple things. One, a possible shortage of your favourite load; and two, a chance of not being able to visit your preferred discipline due to high bookings and having to shoot a variation of stands.”

To deal with that, Eley Hawk have come up with a list of suggestions – these are their most versatile all-round clay loads which, they say, will let you tackle any discipline with confidence. All of these cartridges are available at Eley stockists, or via online cartridge retailers. Prices vary as always, but the shells shown here are likely to range from around £195 to £290 per thousand.
