JULIA‘CRINGES’AT MATTHEW’STELL-ALL
Matthew Perry has opened up about battling addictions, rehab and his near-death experiences in his brand-new autobiography. But the Friends star has also ruffled feathers with the bombshells he’s dropped about his love life – with insiders saying actress Julia Roberts has been left “cringing” by his revelations.
In his book Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing, Matthew, 53, writes how he and Pretty Woman actress Julia embarked on a fiery three-month relationship after Julia was asked to appear in a guest role in Friends in 1995.
Matthew – who played Chandler Bing in the hit show – explained he sent Julia three dozen red roses after producers told him she’d consider the role if her storyline involved Chandler. He then said that after a five-hour phone call, Julia turned up at his door and “a relationship began”.
But Matthew then revealed he dumped Julia, 54, after just three months because he felt “certain that she was going to break up with [him]”.
Now, insiders say Julia – who is happily married to husband Daniel Moder, with whom she shares three kids – is mortified Matthew has lifted the lid on their highly private relationship almost three decades later – and wants to set the record straight.
A source tells Closer, “Julia is embarrassed and disappointed that Matthew has detailed their fling. It smacks of Matthew looking for glam soundbites to fill his book and that’s not how Julia rolls. She’s very old school about her privacy – you never see her kiss and tell about her exes. It made her cringe.
“She is, however, very pleased to see Matthew healthy and sober. She knows how badly he struggled and applauds that he’s shown the courage to get help and encourage others to learn from his own cautionary tale. Julia just wishes he hadn’t dragged her into his life story.”
Matthew has also raised eyebrows with the revelation that he once “made out” with actress Valerie Bertinelli at her house – while her husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen was passed out in another room.
He also revealed his secret crush on co-star Jennifer Aniston – who sadly had a “deafening lack of interest” in him in a romantic way – and added that she was the first to confront him about his heavy drinking on the Friends set.
