Amid their fallout with the royals, insiders reveal Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are worrying how to keep funding their luxury lifestyle

They raked in dealsworth millions with streaming giants and publishers following their departure from the Royal Family in January 2020. But three years on, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Californian dream is under threat as insiders reveal the couple have reached a crunch-point over finances as they deliberate where to take their brand next.

HARSH REALITY

A source says, “The Sussexes are being advised to rein in their lifestyle, and it’s not going down too well. You’ve got a prince and an ambitious former actress who has always dreamed of living like royalty – so neither of them are keen on cutbacks. The harsh reality is that when you’re living in the same neighbourhood as billionaires, you realise that the lavish lifestyle requires paying out a lot of money – every day.”

Six months after their UK departure, Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, moved into a £11m mega mansion in the exclusive neighbourhood of Montecito. With nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms, it also has a library, a swimming pool, a spa, a home gym, a cinema, a tennis court and a play area for their children – Archie, three, and 22-month-old Lilibet.

But their luxury lifestyle has come at a huge cost. The Palace confirmed that Harry – who paid back the £2.4m in refurbishment costs for their former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage, after living there rent-free as working royals – had been cut off financially around the time the couple purchased the mansion. And in their Oprah interview, Harry revealed they made their US move thanks to his inheritance from his late mother, Diana. “I’ve got what my mum left me,” he said. “Without that, we wouldn’t have been able to do this.”
