After Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were spotted enjoying a romantic meal last week, pals say the exes are still ‘flirty friends’ six years on from their divorce
It’s been six years since they devastated fans by announcing that they were separating, but last week, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux looked happy and relaxed together as they reunited for a late-night dinner with friends in New York City.
CHEMISTRY
Jennifer, 54, was photographed hugging fellow actor Justin, 51, and was later spotted holding a rose as she left the Italian restaurant.
And now a source tells Closer the former couple are still incredibly close – so much so that they call themselves “flirty friends”.
The insider says, “Jen and Justin have remained extremely close since their divorce and it’s no secret they never fell out of love with each other. Jen’s always held a candle for Justin, and while they’re just pals, they’ve branded themselves ‘flirty friends’. There’s still chemistry there and they joke that they’d make great ‘friends with benefits’ if they lived closer together.
“The real reason they still spend time together is that they continue to have an amazing connection, which is extremely rare for exes, but they’ve made it work and have managed to maintain that deep friendship and bond that made them fall in love in the first place.”
However, the source reveals that seeing Justin again after lockdown has been tinged with sadness for Jen, who courageously opened up in December about going through several rounds of IVF in her 30s and 40s in a bid to pursue her dream of becoming a mother.
“Jen has loved spending time with Justin in NYC and as well as their dinner, they’ve spent a lot of time hanging out at Justin’s apartment – reminiscing about old times, watching movies together, drinking wine and generally catching up,” the source says.
“It understandably gives Jen a tinge of sadness at what could have been, given how strong their chemistry still is, but she’s incredibly grateful for their friendship.”
The source adds that the pair – who started dating after meeting on the set of their film Wanderlust in 2011, before Justin proposed to Jen on her 41st birthday in 2012 – are in fact so close as friends that they have even attempted to match-make for each other.
