As the coronation approaches, Meghan Markle is planning to steal the show Stateside as ‘homesick’ Prince Harry heads to the UK
While Meghan Markle is keeping her distance from the coronation celebrations this weekend as she remains in California, she’s made it clear to fans that she isn’t “hiding” away – and won’t remain silent during her ongoing feud with the Royal Family.
Instead, just two weeks before the day itself – which will see Prince Harry attend his father’s coronation alone – Meghan, 41, debuted what was dubbed her “Montecito makeover” while introducing a TED talk for a friend via a video link from her home.
Meghan’s glossy new look – which she flaunted at a Lakers basketball game in LA last week, where she appeared to reject Harry’s advances on the famous “kiss cam” – is a stark change to the natural waves and pulled-back ponytail ’dos she opted for during her time as a senior royal.
And this isn’t the first time the Duchess of Sussex has premiered a bold new style to make a statement. Last September, Meghan opted for a fiery red jumpsuit to deliver her first UK speech since stepping down as a working royal in January 2020, later revealing, “Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour”, adding that she didn’t want to “embarrass the family”.
Comparing the look to the likes of Hollywood royalty Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian, fashionistas described Meghan’s glow-up as a “polished power move”.

And now a source now tells Closer that Meghan's laser-sharp locks are just the start of her plans for revenge against the royals – whether Harry likes it or not.
An insider says, “Harry may have helped her reach this level of status, but she doesn’t need him as much anymore. It will be all about her from now on. Meghan has proved she’s done with the drama with the royals, and now wants to make it on her own. For her, it’s the best revenge after living in the shadows of the royals for so long.
”Meghan wants all of the power, and to become the ‘Queen of Hollywood’ would cement her status. She is in talks to write her own book and plans to produce more documentaries alongside venturing into politics. She has no intention of coming back to the UK, even if Harry wants to spend more time over here, and says he can go by himself.”
Last week, it was announced that Meghan had signed with top Hollywood agent WME, who will be focusing on film and television production, brand partnerships and more for the Duchess.
