As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reach crisis point, insiders say Meghan has ‘begged’ her husband to make amends with his family

She was all smiles at Variety’s ‘Power Of Women’ gala last week, announcing that they were working on ‘exciting new projects’, but royal experts blasted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – accusing them of turning King Charles’s birthday into a “publicity stunt”.

Earlier this month Prince Harry confirmed through his spokesperson that there had been “no contact” from Charles, therefore confirming that he and Meghan had not received an invite to the royal bash he held at Clarence House last week.

However, trusted insiders revealed how Harry had reached out to his father through a phone call on the day itself – a move that has been criticised as an attempt to hog the limelight and twist the story to make him appear to be the “bigger person” amidst the on-going family feud.

Despite the phone call – the first contact between Harry, 39, and his father in six months – reported to have been “polite”, with Charles also believed to have exchanged awkward pleasantries with Meghan, 42, there is still a long way to go if the royal rift is going to heal.

But now a source tells Closer that the couple are struggling to hold on to their Hollywood hopes following the loss of their contract with Spotify in June.

The insider says, “Meghan and Harry are in panic mode and it’s becoming clearer and clearer that their royal currency is dwindling, which is having a knock-on effect on their Hollywood careers.

“They both know full-well that their success rests on their royal connections and being snubbed from Charles’s birthday celebrations was a huge wake-up call that the royal family is no longer prepared to put on a facade in a bid to fund their Hollywood lifestyles.

“Meghan in particular is very on edge and feels as if they’re slowly being phased out, which is going to be detrimental to the power they’re currently wielding in the US.

“Her appearance at Variety’s gala shows how desperate she is to foster new connections as otherwise, she fears there could be no future for them.”

Their departure marked one of the biggest betrayals in the history of the royal family, following on from the abdication of King Edward VIII nearly nine decades ago.
