As it emerges that her father has undergone a shock leg amputation, insiders say Britney Spears has had a wake-up call

It’s been two years since Britney Spears was finally released from her cruel conservatorship after 13 years of having every part of her life scrutinised and controlled by her father, Jamie Spears – who the singer once chillingly revealed told her, “I’m Britney Spears now”.

ESTRANGED

The pair have been estranged ever since but, last week, reports emerged that Jamie, 71, had recently undergone a shock leg amputation after suffering from a serious infection caused by a knee replacement.

Now a source tells Closer how her dad’s operation has made Britney question whether it might be time to try for a reconcilation as she considers “fixing” her family.

The insider says, “Brit’s dad being so unwell in hospital has really shaken her up, it’s a wake-up call. There’s no doubt that she still harbours anger and bitterness – and she can never forget that. But her dad’s illness has made her feel quite torn – she doesn’t want to look back at this time and live with regret at not reaching out or trying to heal.

“No matter what’s happened between Brit and her parents, deep down she still has love for them. She would never forgive herself if she lost her dad and hadn’t made amends and she’s let it be known that while they have a lot of work to do, she’s contemplating taking that step.”
