As Kate Middleton finds herself at the centre of the royal furore once more after being accused of racism, insiders say she’s now hoping for a public showdown with Meghan Markle
Christmas clearly holds a special place in Kate Middleton’s heart.
Not only is she a doting mum to three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five – but last week, the Princess of Wales was glowing as she spearheaded the “Together At Christmas” royal concert at Westminster Abbey and took a surprise tour of the Strictly Come Dancing studios.
But behind the picturesque scenes of festivities and grandeur, Kate, 41, has had one of her toughest years yet.
And last week, as the Christmas countdown continued, things only seemed to be getting worse for the popular royal, when Meghan Markle’s “chief cheerleader”, author Omid Scobie, appeared to “out” the Princess of Wales and King Charles as the senior royals that Meghan, 42, has accused of racism.
In a Dutch edition of his new book Endgame – in which he labels Kate as a “pliable” Stepford wife to Prince William and a “part-time royal” who is “too terrified” to do anything but pose for pictures – Scobie refers directly to Charles and Kate as allegedly raising questions over the colour of Meghan and Harry’s now-four-year-old son Archie’s skin ahead of his birth.
UNDER PRESSURE
While Scobie remains insistent that he did not submit a manuscript with the names included, Charles is said to have held a crisis meeting over the scandal after landing back from Dubai last week.
And now a source tells Closer that the book has caused Kate so much anguish that she feels adamant the only way to stop the lies is to take legal action.
The insider says, “Kate keeps breaking down in tears and asking how on earth it’s come to this.
“She’s been turning the other cheek and rising above the negativity for so long that, in many ways, it’s no surprise she’s finally cracking under the pressure of it all – she’s only human, after all.
“For William and Kate, correcting these lies publicly is a viable option – they’re a lot more modern in their thinking than many of the other members of the Royal Family, as everyone knows.”
However, a legal battle could only worsen the rift between the Sussexes and the Wales’ by goading Meghan towards taking further revenge – especially following reports that she has been planning her own bombshell memoir.
