My partner had a secret life – and wife!
Holly Hanford was looking forward to a family Christmas – but for the second year in a row, her partner was nowhere to be seen…
It was meant to be a special Christmas for Holly Hanford as it was her baby daughter Bella’s first. The presents were ready and the turkey was prepped, but there was one very important thing missing –her partner, Caine.
For the second year running, he said he’d been caught up at work at his job in recruitment. But then Holly received a gift she hadn’t bargained for – wedding photos of Caine with his secret spouse.
Shockingly, Holly found out that, when she was pregnant with their daughter, Caine had met another woman who he went on to marry. He’d been living a double life. After confronting the love rat, Holly dumped him and is now happier as a single mum. She says, “It was the worst time. But at least I know the truth now and it’s saved more heartache down the line.”
SERIOUS
Holly met Caine at work and they soon fell for each other. Holly, 39, says “Life with Caine was never dull. Ayear after we got together, I fell pregnant, and things got serious. Caine got anew job in recruitment but it meant he had to work away and was sometimes hard to reach, but I just thought it was part of the job.”
In 2018, Holly fell pregnant and gave birth to Bella. That December, the pair were looking forward to their daughter’s first Christmas. Holly says “We lived in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, and my auntie lived 50 minutes away from us and she’d arranged a big family do. But on Christmas Eve, Caine disappeared. He wasn’t answering his mobile and I was worried sick. I barely slept.”
Holly couldn’t get into the Christmas spirit as she constantly checked her phone for a call or a text from Caine.
She says, “At 11.30am a message came through saying, ‘Sorry, I ran into some issues and got stuck at work. Now I’m stuck in traffic. I’ve let you all down. Mentally, I can’t face your family now, I’m too embarrassed’.
“Although I was so relieved that Caine was safe, I then became angry. It was Christmas Day and our first as a family and he was nowhere to be seen.”
Holly tried to persuade Caine to join them all, but he was insistent. When he finally arrived home on the 27th, he told Holly he’d slept in his car after he got stuck travelling and added that he was under a lot of pressure at work. Holly, a part-time recruiter, says, “I wasn’t happy, but I agreed to put it behind us.”
