As her husband Wayne is sacked and her nemesis Rebekah Vardy is rumoured to be making a TV comeback, insiders say Coleen Rooney is worried for the future
She ended 2023 on a high, following the success of her Disney+ documentary and tell-all memoir, and husband Wayne’s return to the UK from the States to manage Birmingham City.
But insiders say Coleen Rooney was left feeling rocked just days into 2024 after Wayne was sacked, followed by more bleak news that her Wagatha nemesis Rebekah Vardy could make an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in March, with the prospect of more tell-alls about the drama.
Former England and Manchester United footballer Wayne, 38 –who previously coached D.C. United in America –was appointed Birmingham City manager in October, but lasted only 83 days and 15 games, during which time the team slipped from sixth to 20th position.
HUMILIATION
Our source says, “Coleen had such high hopes for 2024, it was really going to be her year. Wayne was back in the UK and she had received so much support from the public following her documentary and book –she was just weighing up her options of what to do next.
“But that’s all changed now Wayne no longer has a job.”
Coleen, 37 –who previously struggled with homesickness when she relocated to the States in 2018 during Wayne’s playing career at D.C. United – was delighted to finally have her husband back in the UK.
She wrote shortly after he secured the job at Birmingham, “Happy Birthday @waynerooney. So nice to have you home to celebrate together.”
The couple –parents to Kai, 13, Klay, 10, Kit, seven, and fiv-eyear-old Cass –have overcome numerous hurdles in the past due to Wayne’s drinking. As well as various cheating scandals, which included him visiting prostitutes, Wayne was also arrested for drink driving in 2017 and charged with public intoxication and use of profanity in public a year later.
Despite Wayne avoiding controversy in recent years, Coleen revealed in her book, “Wayne drinks to be invisible. If there’s too much going on in his head, he’ll drink to blot it all out and disappear from the world. What happens, of course, is the opposite.”
And the insider now says Coleen is concerned that this latest humiliation could knock Wayne’s confidence, so she’s ensuring she stays at home more often to support him.
