REAL LIFE

NAKED HOTELIER

A beach holiday in the buff changed Karie Jane’s life for the better – and now she’s turned her passion for nudity into a thriving business

When Karie Jane split from her husband Steve, she decided it was time for a fresh start. And not only did the 56-year-old decide to move to the Canary Islands, she also turned their former holiday home into a naturist resort –and luckily her ex gave her his blessing.

She says, “If someone had told me a few years ago that I’d be divorced and living in a nudist resort, I never would have believed them. But here I am – liberated, single and living my best life.”

MORTIFIED

Karie first discovered her love for naturism when she and her then-husband of 15 years Steve stumbled across a nudist beach while on holiday in Fuerteventura. At first, body-conscious Karie – who is a size 16 – was mortified. But after a glass of sangria and some gentle persuasion from Steve, who thought the experience might add some excitement to their relationship, she agreed to strip off. She says, “I was horrified at the thought of strangers staring at my jiggly bits, but after a while I realised I stood out more as I was the only person on the beach with clothes on.”

Catching up on a spot of light reading

Realising hardly anybody on the beach had a perfect summer body, she soon relaxed.

“After a while I found it really liberating not caring how I looked – and wanted to do it again,” she recalls.

Back home in Derbyshire, it was too cold for the couple to go au naturel, so they had to wait for the following year when they returned, eager for a spot of skinny dipping.

They loved it so much that they then decided to purchase a holiday home on the island near a nudist beach so they could strip off whenever they fancied. She says, “We were wandering through Costa Calma when we spotted a gorgeous white villa with huge windows and a pool. It was for sale, so the next day we took a look around and ended up putting in an offer.”

AT HOME

With the villa boasting five apartments, they planned to use one during the summer and rent the rest out during the cooler months. But after afew years the couple went their separate ways.

She says, “I wanted to get away from the rat race of the UK, so I called Steve and let him know my plan to move into the villa full-time, which he was happy with.”

Karie set about starting anew life in Fuerteventura.

She says, “I found friends within acommunity of other naturists and began to feel right at home. Ibegan dating, but some people couldn’t handle the fact that I liked to strip off so I decided I didn’t need a partner.”
