Why male stars are turning to ‘tweakments’

The age-defying faces of some of our favourite male celebs have been fascinating fans – here cosmetic practitioner Amar Suchde reveals how and why they do it

For decades, female stars have undergone facial aesthetic treatments to plump them up in the right places or slow down the ageing process. And now statistics show that men are jumping on the band wagon.

Last week, Brad Pitt went viral on TikTok after eagle-eyed fans speculated that he’d had a secret face lift after spotting a funny mark behind his ear – with comments including, “No WONDER he looks that good at 60” and, “Seems like Brad may have had a cheeky trip to the surgeon!”

The number of men undergoing injectable “tweakments” has more than doubled in the past two years, and in 2023 males accounted for a quarter of patients opting for injectable treatments – up 70 per cent on 2021. Cosmetic practitioner Amar Suchde, from AMS Aesthetics, who has a practice in Harley Street, says the reason for the rise is partly because the taboo around aesthetics has decreased in recent years due to more and more male celebrities being open about the work they’ve had done.

“Everyone wants to look good, whether male or female,” Amar says. “It’s become very accessible and now you’re seeing celebrities like Gordon Ramsay and Jimmy Carr admit to having treatments like Botox. Plus, social media has become very powerful with presenting ways of maintaining a level of beauty and stopping the ageing process.

“The market has shifted from being mainly female-led make-up and aesthetics to now including male products – beauty is for all genders. There is more of an openness around men changing their faces.”

Commenting on what he believes Brad has had done, Amar says, “He has what most of my male clients seek – they ask for more structure and a bit more width to their jaw to add dominance to the face.

“However, it does look like Brad has had some work done in recent years. It could very possibly be that he’s had a face lift, as you can see a tautness and an uplift around the ear, which is a tell-tale sign.

“I’d also say he’s had Botox, as the lines on his face have smoothed out. I’d also suggest he’s undergone some laser work to regenerate the collagen and resurface the skin.”

TOM CRUISE

Tom Cruise, 61, has never admitted to cosmetic procedures, but fans have commented on the Hollywood actor’s ever-changing appearance, saying he looked “inflated” and “puffy” while out and about towards the end of last year.

Amar says, “He seems to have had some dermal filler
