Meghan’s panic

Following King Charles’ shock diagnosis, insiders say Prince Harry is feeling ‘upset’ and ‘angry’ that he and wife Meghan Markle allowed their toxic royal feud to go this far

While the monarchy had no doubt hoped that the New Year would bring peace and much-needed reconciliation, the Royal Family have once again been thrown into crisis following the news that King Charles, 75, has been diagnosed with cancer – less than year since his ascension to the throne. And as Prince William and Queen Camilla attempt to juggle royal duties while caring for Charles, the absence of Prince Harry – who is reported to have seen his father for just 45 minutes during his 26-hour stopover in London last week – is being felt more keenly than ever.

He is thought to be considering how to reconcile with William

Now, after years of putting on a united front with his wife Meghan Markle following their departure for the US in 2020, a royal insider tells Closer that this latest bombshell has left the estranged Prince battling with guilt and regret.

U-TURN

And the source says Harry’s dramatic U-turn has left Meghan fearing he could be forced back into the family fold.

The insider says, “Harry has been completely floored by the news and immediately sprang into crisis mode – booking his flight to the UK minutes after receiving the call.

“He went from being in a state of shock to feeling angry, which led to a tense conversation between him and Meghan.

“Learning of his father’s diagnosis made Harry realise how menial all this bickering has been. He feels that it’s shone a light on how frivolous all this fighting had been and ultimately, how much he loves his father and wants to be by his side.

“Meghan’s terrified he’s going to be dragged back into the fold and the gap between them will grow as he spends more time there, which is understandably causing her to panic and spiral.”

STUCK

It has been four years since Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, jetted to the States to begin their new life in the exclusive enclave of Montecito.

But while the couple, alongside their children – Archie, four, and two-year-old Lilibet – now call their £11 million Californian mansion “home”, a spate of recent royal crises and major events, including the 2021 death of Queen Elizabeth and Charles’ Coronation last May – have continued to pull Harry back to the UK.
