As Netflix adds Holly Willoughby to its books, it’s paved the way for discussions about her finally cracking America

She was rumoured earlier this year to be eyeing up a move to the States to expand her presenting horizons. And after Holly Willoughby was announced as the presenter of new American-based Netflix series Bear Hunt, insiders say that her husband, producer Dan Baldwin, is encouraging a temporary relocation across the pond.

AMBITIOUS

“Dan has been keen for Holly to break America for years and finally feels she’s going to do this with the new Netflix show,” a source says. “He is hugely ambitious for them both and would love for them to move to America for a while to do more shows and have a change in their lifestyle. Holly is keen and is thinking of it as a fresh start, and Dan feels they can’t miss this opportunity after she has spent years turning stuff down.

“A few years ago, neither of them would ever have considered it, but with everything that has gone on, they feel they’ve got nothing to lose and would like a new adventure as a family.”

Holly, 43 – who is mum to Harry, 14, Belle, 12, and Chester, 10 – recently wrapped up the 16th series of Dancing On Ice, before news of her Stateside project emerged.

The announcement read, “Introducing Bear Hunt – this new action-packed competition show sees a group of unlikely British celebrities dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for one of the world’s most fearsome predators... Bear Grylls! Hosted by Holly Willoughby – coming to Netflix in 2025.”

It will be welcome news for the Brighton-born presenter, following what has been described as her annus horribilis last year. After she was embroiled in the fallout from former best friend Phillip Schofield’s “unwise but not illegal” affair with a young runner, she then quit This Morning in October following a 14-year run at the helm. She took a three-month hiatus but returned to screens in January to co-host Dancing On Ice with Stephen Mulhern.

At the time, a source revealed that jobs in America had “always been at the back of Holly’s mind”, adding, “Now they’ve become a genuine reality and she’s excited by that. Discussions are taking place and she’s in no rush to take on any roles, but if there is a presenting gig she feels passionate about Stateside, she has the freedom now to explore it.”

And now, after her This Morning successor Cat Deeley hit the big time in America, insiders say that Holly could follow suit by uprooting the family to Los Angeles.
