In the mix!

Thanks to GBBO they’ve become a must-have for any worktop – but which stand mixers can really cut it in the kitchen? Closer puts them to the test

BEST COMPACT

£189.99

Our tester loved the unusual design of this mixer. When not in use, all the accessories fit neatly inside, which makes it really handy for storage – perfect if your kitchen is tight for space.

The time display on the side of the machine is a huge plus point as you can whisk away with precision, and the inclusion of a lid prevents any mess spilling out onto your worktop. While this might not be the prettiest design around (and it is a little noisy), it does the job well and is extremely powerful. The mixing bowl is a good size too.

BEST BUDGET

£55

Even though this mixer is priced at just over £50, our tester was impressed by its look and feel. It is really efficient and has seven speed settings, however there was a need to frequently scape down the sides of the bowl to make sure all the mixture was being combined properly. The bowl and whisk detach easily and are both dishwasher safe, which makes cleaning up quick and easy. It is rather noisy, but for the low price point, this is to be expected. On the whole, this is a great option for those looking for a budget option.

BEST MULTI-PURPOSE

£45

While it may not look as attractive as others on the market, this model offers a feature that most standing mixers don’t have – the whisk can be detached to become a hand whisk. This is so convenient and means you effectively get two appliances for the price of one! Our tester found that the mixer didn’t feel as sturdy as they would have liked and the whisk was a little fiddly to attach and detach. But after getting the hang of it, they did enjoy this multipurpose function. The bowl is a good size, but it might not be big enough for larger-scale mixing.
