WHAT’S THE BUZZ? If you are looking for a quiet, traditional Cornish holiday like the ones you might have enjoyed as child, recently renovated Tremaine Manor Cottages might be the place for you. The 17th-century hamlet, originally made up of a medium-sized manor house and farm, with servants’ quarters, stables, piggery and workers’ cottages, was originally turned into holiday lets more than 50 years ago. The pretty little enclave benefits from an established garden, with plenty of huge hydrangeas adding splashes of colour against the backdrop of the granite stone walls. The collection of cottages, sleeping from two to six people, centres around a small ‘village green’, where there is communal seating and lovely views can be enjoyed. The manor house has its own parking area and is currently split into two rental properties, which can be combined for a large family or multi-generational stay, with room for 12 adults and two additional children in bunk-beds. On site, there is an animal petting area, which little ones will enjoy, with some guinea pigs, miniature horses and pygmy goats. There is also a tennis court and a traditional games room as well as a small, outdoor play area. Children might also enjoy gathering the eggs from the hens, which can then be cooked for breakfast. There is a pond too, with resident ducks, which may come to visit you.
HOW ABOUT THE FOOD? There isn’t a restaurant here, but if you are looking for something fancy, The Talland Bay Hotel is not far away and offers both excellent fine dining and also a more casual menu on The Terrace. There is a small, on-site shop where you can pick up some basic items. A hamper of local produce is in the cottage on your arrival, and ours contained breakfast cereal, a cream tea, milk, bread and most of the basics you will need to start your stay.
