WHAT’S THE BUZZ? Nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of Constable Country near Colchester, the family-owned Stoke by Nayland Resort is a hidden gem. Developed from a 120-acre apple farm, it boasts two championship golf courses, a spa and fitness suite, a range of bars and restaurants, a luxurious hotel and five eco-friendly lodges. There is much to explore in the surrounding area, including The Suffolk Distillery where you can sample delicious gin, rum and vodka hand-crafted in Suffolk, and just a 45-minute drive from the resort are the wide sandy beaches of Frinton-on-Sea. WHAT’S THE ACCOMMODATION LIKE? The spacious, contemporary, open-plan Apple Tree Lodges with decked balconies offer accommodation ranging from one to four bedrooms. Furnished with super-king beds or singles that can join if needed are decorated to evoke a 1940s feel (interiors by Lindsey Rendall), which serves as an elegant nod towards the location’s history as a former Women’s Land Army Hostel. The lodges are bathed in natural light with their floor-to-ceiling windows creating the ideal space for a family night in or a couples’ getaway.
ECO CREDENTIALS? The hand-built eco-lodges derive 100% of heat and power from sustainable, green energy sources on site, including solar panels and air source heat pumps. Built from sustainable hardwood with cedar tile roofs, careful consideration has been taken on the construction of these luxurious lodges.
BEST VIEWS? While the sea isn’t visible, the lodges themselves offer views over the golf course lakes and woodland of the sprawling local countryside.
