FIRST SEAL SPOTTED

Eve Spittel of the National Trust has informed Coast of the birth of the first grey seal pup of the season which has been spotted on Blakeney Point in Norfolk – England’s largest grey seal colony - two weeks earlier than expected. Eve adds: The sighting signals the beginning of the nature reserve’s annual winter wildlife spectacle, during which 4,500 seal pups are expected to be born, the highest ever recorded.”

AWARDS APPEAL

Susannah Hart, of MDL Marinas, writes to tell us of some newly-launched awards for young people: “Nominations are now being sought for our Sail Training Awards 2023.

“Now in their fourth decade, each year these unique awards offer 12 inspirational young people the opportunity to enjoy a life-changing sailing experience with the Ocean Youth Trust South onboard its sail training vessel, Prolific.

“We’re looking for young people aged between 12 and 18, who have overcome adverse personal circumstances, shown exceptional accomplishments and achievements or who have supported those around them.

IN MEMORY OF MOLL

Author Sue Kittow, known for her Walks In The Footsteps series of Cornishbased coastal leisure guides, tells coast that when was widowed, her terrier Moll kept her going through her grief.
