Iwas waxing lyrical to a friend about my recent short break for 11 of our family in Cubert, Cornwall, and he became more and more open-mouthed as I told the tale of what an amazing time we’d had. “That must have been tricky to organise,” he opined, “what with the distance and all the logistics.”

Well okay, I responded, Cornwall is a little far to drive and getting all the members of a multigenerational family in one place at the same time can be tricky, but we had some help along the way and

Cubert is such a lovely spot – and so close to the nearby beach at Holywell Bay – that we all ended up having a fabulously memorable weekend.

“Oh Cubert,” he responded. “I thought you said CUBA.”

Everyone gathers to dine in style at the large wooden dining table which can be dressed to impress for celebrations, kept simple for hearty breakfasts or offers a communal space for children’s early suppers. The envy of any budding chef, the fitted kitchen is packed with country style from the chunky island unit and AGA to the blue/grey slate flooring and original ‘linney’, a convenient leanto to house the utilities.

There are two relaxing living spaces on the ground floor each offering a unique sense of calm amidst opulent fabrics and a beguiling colour palette of samphire blues, cool greys and mustard yellows.

To the rear, a bedroom completes the ground floor with a beautiful family bathroom adjacent. Climb the central staircase to the first floor and the collection of four bedrooms. Worthy of any boutique hotel, each bedroom has been thoughtfully styled to ensure an individual design flair, the very best beds and bedding and private sanctuary after a busy day on the coast. Bedroom one is accessed via a private butler’s staircase from the ground f
