Welcome

Deadlines for our March issue mean I am writing this having just returned from an extended Christmas and New Year’s break. That ‘first day back at school’ feeling pervades – and the rain is lashing against the window as I write – which could make a chap rather miserable.

But instead I am feeling positive and joyous as I leaf through the proofs of this issue, especially when I land on our Cornwall content. If you’re a coast lover then the Duchy surely has to be nirvana, offering as it does so many different shoreline experiences.

From the wide open beach expanses of places like Gwithian, to the cute harbours of Fowey and Mousehole to the exciting towns like Newquay and St Ives to the splendid isolation of lesser known spots like Holywell Bay, the county just about offers it all.

As a result, Cornwall finds itself in our pages most months but this time around we have a special focus on the county, including an in-depth look at a group of dedicated folks who are working very hard to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of its beaches in the face of man-made threats.

So our features serve a dual purpose of pointing out why Cornwall is such a special place to visit, whilst also reminding us of the need to do our bit to protect it. Cornwall resident and Coast columnist Martin Dorey is the instigator of the 2Minute Beach Clean initiative and I, for one, will follow his lead by always ensuring this year that whenever I visit I spend some time cleaning up around me.

Until next time…and enjoy the magazine.
