In Issue 665 (page 24) we announced the Asus RT-AXE7800 as our new favourite router for offering Wi-Fi 6E for just £245 (it’s now dropped below £200). Now along comes the Tenda RX27 Pro, which also offers Wi-Fi 6E but only costs £130.

To get the price down, Chinese manufacturer Tenda has limited the bandwidth available on the additional 6GHz network. This means that while it’s still within the tolerances of the Wi-Fi 6E standard, it may not get the most out of any current Wi-Fi 6E-capable devices you own, or those that you may buy in the future.

Setup is straightforward and it’s refreshing to see the router comes with a printed Quick Installation Guide. This takes you through setup and includes information on the device’s ports, buttons and LEDs. It also includes instructions for setting up the router as an add-on to an existing network. fast and painless and simply entails resetting admin credentials for each of the three bands (2.4, 5 and 6GHz). The control panel is perfectly usable even though some of the English translation isn’t perfect.

The device includes plenty of features, including security tools, parental control, port forwarding, remote web management, a VPN, a guest network and Alexa integration.
