Faulty updates cause windows 10 apps to crash

Several faulty updates are causing many Windows 10 apps to crash repeatedly, leading to a flurry of complaints on Microsoft’s forums.

These problems are more likely to be the result of carelessness than conspiracy. It probably didn’t even occur to Microsoft to check whether the updates would break computers powered by such old processors. However, the bugs have sparked so much anger on forums that Microsoft will probably release a fix, albeit reluctantly. If you’ve been affected, treat it as a sign that more tools might stop working as we head towards the end of Windows 10’s natural life.

& TV’, Paint 3D and Photos (pictured below), seem to have started when Microsoft updated them by releasing new versions via its Store.

This method lets the company update apps quickly and separately without having to wait for a whole new version of Windows to be ready.

However, the latest updates – released in January – have caused an unusually high number of problems, many producing the message ‘File System Error (-2147219196)’ – see screenshot above right.

Frustrated users tried to report the bugs on Microsoft’s Feedback Hub app, but that wasn’t working either.
