How do I get Glow to work?

Set up a Meross smart plug using the QR code on the plug itself, not in the supplied leaflet

Q I installed Glow (www.snipca. com/49138) as you recommended in Issue 677 (page 62), but there’s no trace of it in the Start menu or in the Program Files/Program Files (x86) folders. However, when I search my hard drive I see many Glow-related files scattered around my system - although no EXE launch file. How do I get Glow to work? And if I can’t, how do I remove it? I use Windows 10 with a 64bit AMD processor.

AGlow is a portable tool, so it doesn’t need to be installed, which is why you won’t find it in the Windows Start menu. Instead, you’ll just need to go to the Downloads folder (or wherever you saved its ZIP file) then right-click the file and select Extract All. This will unzip the file and create a new Glow folder within Downloads – open this and double-click the ‘Glow_x64.exe’ file inside.

You can of course create your own shortcut to Glow, making it easier to locate next time you want to launch it. To do so in Windows 11, right-click the ‘Glow_x64.exe’ file and select ‘Show more options’ at the bottom. Doing so will reveal the full list of right-click menu options, including ‘Create shortcut’ – selecting this will create a shortcut to Glow within your unzipped folder, which you can then drag to your desktop.

Simply double-click this shortcut to launch Glow. Or, if you prefer, right-click the desktop shortcut ( 1in our screenshot below left) and select ‘Pin to Start’ 2to create a shortcut to Glow that you can access from your Start menu.

If you still want to remove the tool, just drag the Glow folder, along with the original ZIP file, into the recycle bin. Again, because it’s a portable tool, you don’t need to uninstall it.

How do I scan QR code to set up smart plug?

Q Following Issue 676’s Cover Feature on smart plugs, I bought a Meross Plug MSS315 (£35 from www.snipca.com/49356). It asked me to scan a QR code to set it up, but it has no numbers underneath the code. Please could you help me by emailing me a copy of the QR code?

Pat Dale

A Confusingly, some Meross products are supplied with more than one QR code. The code you need to scan to set the device up is the one you’ll find on the label that’s on the smart plug itself, not what’s printe
