Can I change the colour of my folders?
Q Is there an easy way to change the colour of folders in bulk within Windows 11? For example, I’d like all my tax folders to be green to match HMRC’s colour scheme. This makes things faster when I’m looking for documents to file my tax return.

A Try Folder Marker Free (www.snipca.com/49357), which makes it easy to colour-code groups of folders in one go. Download the program, then double-click the ‘FolderMarkerFree.exe’ file to go through the setup instructions. Part of this adds Folder Marker options to your right-click (context) menu. When it’s finished, untick ‘Launch Folder Marker’, click Finish, then restart your computer.
You can now colour your folders in two ways. One is to navigate to File Explorer, then hold down the Ctrl button as you click each folder you want to colour. When you’ve selected them all, right-click and select ‘Show more options’, then Mark Folder, followed by Colors ( 1 in our screenshot). You’ll see a choice of six colours. Note that in Windows 10 you don’t need to click ‘Show more options’.
The second method gives you 13 colours to choose. Launch Folder Marker, then open the Folder menu 2 and select Multiple Folders. Next, pick all the folders you want to colour. Either drag the folders from File Explorer into the selection pane 3 or click the + Add 4 button to manually add them – if there are multiple folders in the same location, hold down the Ctrl key as you click each one to highlight it before clicking Select Folder.
Repeat until you’ve added all the folders you’d like to colour. Finally, click your chosen colour from the options before clicking Apply 5 at the bottom.
